Facing Fear and Letting Go of Perfection

——融合部新生代表 李龙汐

Good morning, everyone!

Today, I’d like to share a story with you about “Facing Fear and Letting Go of Perfection.”

For a long time, I believed that perfection was everything. This mindset brought me significant fear and anxiety, especially when it came to public speaking—it was my worst nightmare. When I first arrived at Qihua Academy, the mere thought of speaking in front of others filled me with dread. I constantly felt unprepared, always waiting for that 'perfect moment' when I could speak flawlessly. But one day, I could no longer avoid it. It was during my second year of junior high when my teacher unexpectedly called for a three-minute speech. I was chosen at random, and my heart sank—I hadn’t prepared anything. I could already envision the scene: my speech falling apart, with everyone laughing.

Despite my fears, I took the stage and began speaking about a book on self-control from Stanford University that I had recently read. You might be expecting a triumphant story here, but the reality was that my speech was as disjointed as I had feared, with moments where I completely froze. What surprised me, however, was the reaction of my classmates. They listened intently, and there wasn’t a single laugh. My teacher simply said, "Good job, Bill."

That experience was a turning point for me. I realized that perfection isn’t everything; what truly matters is taking that first step. Even now, when I learned about this speaking assignment from my teacher Ms Cathy, it took me an hour to muster the courage to sign up. The same anxiety and tension gripped me. Should I wait for that elusive perfect moment, or should I seize the opportunity now? My past experience provided the answer: “Go for it!” I’ve transitioned from being compelled to speak to actively seeking out opportunities to do so. I’ve learned that no one is born perfect; it’s all about making continuous efforts.

And you know what? It feels incredible to challenge myself and see what I’m capable of. I’ve come to realize that the journey to perfection is not about flawless performance but about the courage to keep trying.

In the next three years, we will face various challenges: the discomfort of adapting to new environments, uncertainty about future schools and majors, and the confusion that comes with exploring personal interests and goals. We might feel anxious, but this anxiety is a sign of our growth, reminding us that we are stepping out of our comfort zones and motivating us to keep moving forward.

In closing, I want to express my deepest gratitude to Qihua for being a place where we can try, fail, and try again. This is why I chose this school and its international high school—because we are here to explore, learn, and discover our true passions.

Let’s all be brave and embrace new challenges together!

大家好！非常荣幸能代表新生站在这里发言。

金风送爽染桂香，菊花傲霜展华章。在这秋意渐浓的季节，在这清风习习的校园，我们拉开了高中的序章。

“雄关漫道真如铁，而今迈步从头越。”昨日我们经过中考的洗礼，今日步入梦寐以求的启华双语学校高中部。昨日的辉煌已经过去，明日的荣耀还需今日的奋斗。良好的开端是成功的一半，在这个新学期、新征程中，我们将以汗水和毅力行而不缀，以智慧和乐观履践致远，我们会积极参与学校组织的各项活动，自信而张扬的展示自身特长，更广而更深的发掘自身潜能，努力且坚定的成就更优秀的自我。

“悬衡而知平，设规而知圆。”规则是一面镜子，每个人都以此自检。校规的制定不仅让我们拥有一个健康良好的成长环境，更能增强自律，让我们养成慎独的好习惯。身为一名启华高中部的学生，我们坚定地遵守校规校纪，以遵纪为荣，以违纪为耻。

“征程万里风正劲，重任千钧再奋蹄。”高中不比初中，它学习的层面更深，考核的内容更难。在未来，或许你会因学习上的不如意而大哭一场，或许你会因与初中的巨大落差而感到不平衡。不用悲叹，古人云，穷且益坚，不坠青云之志，坚持下去，我们的未来定将光芒万丈。“少年何妨梦摘星，敢挽桑弓射玉衡。”少年的我们意气风发朝气蓬勃，我们不畏艰险轻狂不羁，我们来日方长！

有责任有担当，青春才会闪光。作为有担当的启华学子，我们有强烈的历史责任感，立志成为可堪大用、能担重任的栋梁之材；我们经风雨、长才干、展抱负、建功业，展现青春作为、彰显青春风采、贡献青春力量。此刻，我们立下铿锵誓言：今天，我们以启华为傲，明天，母校将以我们为豪。

丈夫志不大，何以佐乾坤，回顾过去，我们踌躇满志，展望未来，我们鹏程万里。愿每一位同学一鸣从此始，相望青云端。
